Ensemble Theatre Company at the New Vic

For Ensemble Theatre Company

In 2013, the Hind Foundation granted $200,000 to the Ensemble Theatre Company to support the renovation of the Victoria Theatre, transforming it into The New Vic, a modern, flexible and highly durable venue. As the only 300-seat theater in downtown Santa Barbara, the refurbished facility is an exceptional venue for Ensemble’s theatrical productions and also for lectures, dance, ballet, chamber music, film and a variety of other community-based performing arts. It's new interior configuration allows optimal sight lines for patrons, new acoustical treatments, new technically advanced equipment, a fully functional stage house and wing areas, and expanded entrance, lobby and intermission spaces.

Noteworthy Outcomes

  • Economic Strength
For more than two decades, the City of Santa Barbara has worked to complete a Downtown Performing Arts District consisting of large, medium and intimate theaters. The New Vic is final theater necessary to complete the District, adding to the economic strength of the downtown and contributing significantly to the cultural richness of the region.
  • Opportunity
This exceptional and unique facility gives other performing arts organizations the opportunity to utilize the space at cost effective prices.
