Hind Hall Teaching Studio Building
For Music Academy of the West
In 2016, the Hind Foundation granted $4,400,000 to Music Academy of the West to construct Hind Hall, the Academy's new, state-of-the-art Teaching Studio Building at its world-renowned campus in Santa Barbara, CA. This leadership grant closes out funding for the Academy's comprehensive $17.5M Finale project, completing the Academy’s facility master plan that was conceptualized in 2000.
Conceived and designed with year-round use in mind, the 5,972 square foot structure will house two large ensemble rehearsal rooms – the Gondos String Quartet Studio and a fully-equipped percussion ensemble room – as well as six large faculty teaching studios. These rehearsal spaces will be utilized by the Music Academy throughout the Summer Festival and by the community during the nonsummer months. Hind Hall will feature the latest in distance learning technology, a new central courtyard, a redesigned loading dock to increase accessibility to and from Hahn Hall, and temperature-controlled storage space for instruments and general campus use. The building will open summer 2017, as a part of the Music Academy of the West’s 70th anniversary season.
Beyond A Building
Upon completion of this final phase, the Academy will qualify as an All-Steinway Institution, achieving a long-standing strategic goal.
