International Choral Competition Attendees
For San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble
In 2010, the Hind Foundation granted $25,000 to San Luis Obispo Vocal Arts Ensemble to help support international choirs who wish to attend the 2011 California International Choral Festival & Competition (Choral Festival). While many international choirs applied to attend the past Choral Festivals – in 2007 and 2009 – some had to drop out of the competition because they were unable to raise the money for airfare and expenses. In 2011, choirs from China, Indonesia, the Congo, Poland, Uganda, and Ukraine applied for financial assistance to make their dream of participating in the Choral Festival a reality.
• International Diversification
Held at the Performing Arts Center on the Cal Poly campus, the Choral Festival is the only Choral competition of its kind on the Unites States. The grants will diversity the talent by ensuring international choirs can participate.
“We wouldn’t have such a line-up without your grant funding. The choirs are very grateful for the assistance. With escalating travel costs al over the world, having a portion of their food and lodging at Cal Poly being underwritten means the world (literally!) to them.”
