Nutcracker 2012 Live Orchestra
For Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo
In 2012, the Hind Foundation granted $2,500 to the Civic Ballet of San Luis Obispo to help support the addition of a live orchestra to their annual Nutcracker production in order to elevate the quality of the production. Approximately 30 company dancers and 55 child performers from the community participated in this rare opportunity. All of these cast members benefited from this professional level experience and the unique challenge of performing with a live orchestra. The inclusion of the orchestra was also well received by the Community. In fact, many patrons attended the ballet for the first time due to the addition of the orchestra, and many long-time supporters of the ballet had the opportunity to see it for the first time with a live orchestra.
• A Gift Performance
The dress rehearsal was offered as a "Gift Performance" to community members who might otherwise not have been able to attend, and were graciously distributed through the Community Action Partnership, Children Services Network, and the Women's Shelter.
• A New Tradition
Based on the success of the 2012 production, the Civic Ballet made a commitment to include a live orchestra again for the 2013 Nutcracker.
