In 2015, the Hind Foundation granted $4,361 to North County Humane Society (NCHS) for Project Clean Cat, an initiative to obtain new, high-quality commercial washers and dryers to replace their 10 year old washers and dryers. This project coincides with NCHS' committment to maintaining happy, healthy cats and a clean, sanitary, good smelling environment at their shelter.
These new washers and dryers allow NCHS to continue to provide excellent care for their cats and kittens. On a daily average, NCHS has 202 cats and kittens in their care at the shelter. Each day all of the bedding, blankets and towels are washed in hot water and bleach. This keeps the shelter sanitary, and contributes to good litter box habits. Having machines in each building helps avoid cross contamination of diseases and illnesses.
SMHS is the only shelter in northern San Luis Obispo County that has a permanent facility that the public can come to for assistance and adoption for stray, feral, and owner surrendered cats and kittens.
