Reactivation of the Grand Villa Entrance
For Montalvo Arts Center
In 2014, the Hind Foundation provided a $500,000 challenge grant to support the reactivation of the Montalvo Arts Center grand villa entrance and renovation of the west lawn. This transformative project will reactivate the grand villa entrance by creating a dedicated entry point and vehicle drop-off area for guests. A new turnaround will bring vehicles to a stop directly in front of the villa’s historic carved Spanish wood doors. This breathtaking view will offer a striking first impression, signaling to guests that they are about to step out into a very special place and experience. The Foundation’s lead gift is intended to be an important vote of confidence that will help Montalvo secure additional project support.
A Step Back In History
The new vehicle turnaround will establish the existing Spanish doors as the primary entry point to Montalvo, just as they were a century ago when Senator Phelan welcomed guests to the villa.
Programming & Revenue Opportunities
The west lawn will be converted from an unusable steeply-graded space into a functional and flexible terraced landscape that is a natural extension of the oval garden and grand villa entrance. It will be used for programming, fundraising events, and expanded earned income activities including private rentals and additional concessions stands during events.
