Atascadero Lake Park Bandstand

For Kiwanis Club of Atascadero

In 2011, the Hind Foundation granted $24,000 to the Kiwanis Club of Atascadero for the construction of a new Atascadero Lake Park bandstand. Over the past 40 years the Kiwanis Club has contributed to the maintenance of the bandstand - originally built in 1915 - with donations and volunteer hours. Then in October 2010, the general membership voted overwhelmingly in favor of designing and constructing a new 1,300 square foot performance venue. The new craftsman style structure, designed by Kiwanian, Mark Dariz, will feature a low-pitched gable roof with wide overhangs; exposed rafter tails; and post and beam, river rock and shiplap exterior siding. Another Kiwanian, general contractor, Paul Norton, will oversee construction where much of the work will be performed by members, such as demolition of the old bandstand, site cleanup, painting and more. Construction of the bandstand is estimated to cost around $68,000 and will be completed in 2013 to coincide with the City of Atascadero’s centennial celebration.

Noteworthy Outcomes

  • Source of Civic Pride
The new public bandstand will be given to the City as a gift from the Atascadero Kiwanis. The new structure, which will comply with the City’s design guidelines, will provide a beautiful venue for public and private events.
  • Potential Revenue Source
The new structure will not only provide a venue to host public events, but there is a potential for additional revenue through fees paid for private events such as weddings, birthdays, etc.
