Mural Room Restoration

For Santa Barbara Courthouse Legacy Foundation

In 2014, the Hind Foundation awarded a $170,000 grant to the Santa Barbara Courthouse Legacy Foundation to complete the fundraising for the organization’s Mural Room Restoration. Through a comprehensive Historic Structures Report, the restoration of the Mural Room was identified as the Courthouse’s project in the most highest need of attention. Located on the second floor of the Courthouse, the Mural Room's eighty three year old historic paintings, ornate ceilings, furniture, ironwork, chandeliers, woodwork, as well as the wood clad windows and window treatments are all in need of repair and need to be restored to their original condition. A significant part of the work will be the restoration of the 4,100 square feet of deteriorating painted canvas muslin glued to the walls of the Mural Room.
