Neonatal Pods at The Puppy Center

For Guide Dogs for the Blind

In 2015, the Hind Foundation granted $1,000,000 to Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB) to build four neonatal pods at the organization’s new state-of-the-art Puppy Center. The Puppy Center provides healthier, more nurturing habitats for mothers and their pups. Specifically, the neonatal pods utilize best practices in biosecurity to keep the neonates healthy, including a “puppy bubble” to keep neonates healthy. Enhancements include isolation areas for potential contagious puppies; changing areas for staff and volunteers that preserve the distinction between clean and dirty zones; a stable, segregated air system; and high-functioning flooring and surfaces that are least likely to harbor bacteria and viruses.

Noteworthy Outcomes

  • For The Greater Cause
The new Puppy Center will help GDB provide their puppies with an optimal start to their careers, better preparing them to provide more than 300 blind and visually impaired individuals annually with enhanced mobility and independence.
